Explore Kodiak's spectacular beauty and wartime history with extended time for a scenic hike through a portion of 183-acre Fort Abercrombie State Park.
Depart the pier for the drive to park headquarters. You'll have one and a half hour of free, unguided time to hike along well-maintained natural and gravel trails offering breathtaking views. A variety of seabirds inhabit the park's coastline, and whale sightings are frequently reported in this area throughout the season.
During your hike, you might see World War II bunkers -- remnants of Kodiak's wartime past. At the appointed time, meet your bus back at park headquarters for the return drive to the pier.
Notes:
Parts of the trail lead through forested areas with 10% to 20% inclines; to progress further along the trail, you may be required to climb a staircase of 68 steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Transportation to Fort Abercrombie State Park is provided, and you then have free time to explore the trails on your own. Not advisable for guests with heart, respiratory or back conditions. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Dress warmly in layers. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
