Located a short distance from Greenock is one of Scotland's most famous lakes — Loch Lomond. This scenic centerpiece of the eponymous National Park is the largest body of freshwater in the entire UK.
Embark a pleasure boat at the lochside for a relaxing one-hour cruise with a host of amazing views. Watch for six of Scotland's most elegant Victorian stately homes, built by wealthy Glaswegian merchants on the banks of the loch. View the Isle of Inchmurrin — the largest of 60 islands in Loch Lomond and home to the ruins of both a 7th-century monastery and Lennox Castle. Nowadays, no more than ten residents and a few farm animals inhabit the island.
Back aboard the coach, head around the Kilpatrick Hills, pausing for a short break at Loch Lomond Shores. This is the spot for quality retail therapy, featuring excellent locally made goods and fantastic views up the loch to Ben Lomond and the Highland Boundary Fault.
Continue your drive back via Dumbarton, once the center of the Kingdom of the Strathclyde Britons, with its famous fortification on Dumbarton Rock.
Notes:
Participants must be able to climb a few steps to board the boat. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Guests prone to motion sickness should consider this before booking and/or take appropriate medication.
