Travel to the center of the Eternal City with a panoramic drive past its most famous highlights — the Pyramid of Caius Cestius, Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, the Colosseum, Via Veneto and the Borghese Gardens.
Crossing the Tiber River, you will enter the Vatican and visit St Peter's Basilica — the largest church in the world and the heart of Roman Catholicism.
You will see the impressive square which, on special occasions, is filled with people from around the world. Enjoy lunch and free time before returning to the ship.
Notes:
Modest attire is required; knees, shoulders and midriffs must be covered. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. You must pass through security screening; large bags or umbrellas, bottled water, video cameras, knives or scissors must be checked. The basilica can close for security reasons at any time without prior notice; this is particularly relevant on Wednesdays when the Pope holds a mass service in St Peter's Square. You will encounter lines and long delays — your patience is appreciated. Only a certain number of visitors are allowed inside St Peter's Basilica at any one time. If your guide determines that the wait to enter St Peter's is longer than 45 minutes, you will forgo the inside visit, and your guide will provide you with a full explanation and description while outside. More time for shopping or exploring independently will be substituted. Guides are not allowed inside St Peter's Basilica; entry is allowed on an individual basis to view the interior quietly and reverently. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Restoration/maintenance work may be underway at any venue at any time without prior notice; scaffolding can obscure views.
