Join a Conflict Islands Conservation Ranger and a biologist on their mission to save the coral reefs surrounding the atoll.
You’ll operate in the water, equipped with a mask, snorkel and fins. Helping the rangers plant and grow corals in an underwater coral nursery -- a hands-on experience where you will plant your own coral fragment. The biologist will help you learn all about corals in general and the threats that they face.
Assist the rangers as they collect data to track the coral fragments planted. If you want updates on the coral’s growth and survival, adopt your coral and follow its journey to eventual replanting out in the coral reefs surrounding the Conflict Islands.
More confident snorkelers will be asked to further assist the rangers in attaching the coral fragment ropes to the nursery.
Notes:
The nurseries are in about 12-15 feet of water and the sheltered lagoon is suitable for all levels of snorkeler. If you would like to adopt a coral fragment, let the rangers know, and they will walk you through the adoption process. Participants must be physically fit and be able to snorkel. Mask, snorkel and fins are provided. Tour requires walking. Terrain includes soft sand and uneven pathways. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Ensure you do not have sunscreen on your hands within 40 minutes of tour departure. Minimum age is 3 years.
