Answer: Holland America Line refers to gratuity or tipping as “Crew Appreciation.” It is a daily amount automatically added to your onboard account and pooled to recognize the many hard-working team members who contribute to the guest experience. It represents an important part of their compensation.
Though Crew Appreciation is automatically added as a daily expense, guests may adjust the rate at any time during the cruise up to the time they settle their onboard account prior to disembarkation.
Crew Appreciation (Gratuity, Tip) Rates
| Non-suite stateroom guests: | $17.00* USD per guest per day. |
| Suite guests: | $19.00* USD per guest, per day. |
Service Charges: An 18% Service Charge is automatically applied to all beverage purchases, bar retail items, specialty restaurant cover charges, all for-purchase a la carte menu items, and all Spa & Salon services. Local sales taxes are applied where required.
Gratuities and service charges on shore: Gratuities are not automatically applied or included in terminals, airports, ports-of-calls, and on shore excursions. We suggest service gratuities on shore follow customary local practices.
Can I adjust the tip/gratuity amount?
If our service exceeds or fails to meet your expectations, you are free to adjust the amount at the end of each segment and/or voyage. You can add or request a change through Guest Services once on board.
