The town of Sungai Lembing, situated northwest of Kuantan, was built on a history of tin mining. It grew up in the 1880s, when the British colonists set up the commercial tin mining industry here, although the history of smaller-scale mining in this area extends much further back. A 120-year lease to mine the area allowed the Pahang Consolidated Company Limited to establish the deepest and longest tin mine in the world. Operations continued here until 1986, when world tin prices collapsed.
Once the most prosperous towns in Pahang province and known as 'the Eldorado of the East', Sungai Lembing is now facing serious decline. Today, many of the wooden shops are closed and people are moving away. On old wooden colonial building overlooks the Padang (field) where games of cricket and other social activities were held.
Visit the Sungai Lembing Museum, housed in an old bungalow once used by the mine manager. This is a repository of mining artifacts. You'll also see the Chinese clan houses that belonged to the miners. Cross the Kolong Pahat hanging bridge to visit Sungai Lembing ‘mee’ and local coconut biscuits shop.
Lunch at hotel, after lunch visit Teluk Cempedak, one of the most stunning beaches in Malaysia. At Teluk Chempedak Beach, you will find local stalls/shops selling all kinds of handicrafts and local food, stroll on the beach. Continue our journey to the elite residential suburbs of Kuantan and Taman Gelora. It is sited amidst several conducive environments, housing estates do exist but mostly are old government quarters with a low density population. Stop at the Tanjung Api fishing village which is a slice of life in the local fishing village awaits exploration.
Photo stop at Masjid Sultan Ahmad 1 with Moorish architecture as well as beautiful designs and etchings. Which stands regal in the middle of the town. It is a prominent landmark to all visitors coming into the town before returning to the Kuantan Port.
