Discover the natural wonders of Ishigaki from bay to cave.
Head to Kabira Bay, a picture-perfect landscape with powder-white sand, dense vegetation and waters in mesmerizing shades of turquoise and emerald. This splendid bay is a designated Place of Scenic Beauty, awarded a top three stars by the Michelin Guide.
Discover the bay’s underwater treasures by glass-bottom boat, enjoying the opportunity to see brilliantly-colored fish, giant clams and coral reefs in the transparent waters.
Next, drive to Ishigaki Yaima Village, where old traditional houses have been moved from elsewhere on the island and reassembled to create an open-air museum. Then, strolling through the village, you will get a true sense of Japan’s cultural heritage and, depending on timing, witness a folkloric music performance.
Then, it’s on to the amazing Ishigaki Limestone Cave. Spacious caverns, formed over a period of more than 200,000 years, create a vast network of tunnels and chambers with fascinating geological formations. A well-maintained path meanders through about 2,100 feet of the cave’s total length of 10,500 feet. Gaze spellbound at the cavern’s walls and ceilings dripping with formations and illuminated by well-placed lights.
After exploring the cave, rejoin your motorcoach and return to the pier.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Terrain includes stairs and/or uneven surfaces. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Glass-bottom boat operates weather permitting; in the event of unsuitable conditions, a visit to Yonekoyaki Pottery Studio will be substituted. There is no narration from your guide during the glass-bottom boat ride or in the cave. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
