Las Palmas has a long maritime history. Founded in 1478 by Spanish conquistadors, it was the provisioning stop for Columbus on all four of his voyages. Enjoy this treasured seascape for yourself on a kayak adventure.
Your aquatic outing begins with a walk from the pier to the nearby Playa de Las Alcaravaneras -- the oceanfront beach playground that stretches 1,800 feet along the shoreline and faces Puerto de la Luz.
The calm water and wide, golden beach make it a great place to meet your knowledgeable guide. No experience is necessary — your guide offers directions on how to enter and exit the kayak, use your paddle, and reach a good speed with sustainable effort. Don your lifejacket and hop into a single or tandem kayak, paddling along the shoreline past Alcaravaneras Beach for a total of 90 minutes.
Humans aren't the only visitors here. You may be lucky enough to spot a dolphin or other marine life before turning your kayak back to shore.
Back on dry land, towel off and walk back to the ship, or you can relax on the sand or walk along the promenade as you plan your next adventure.
