Tórshavn began with a Viking thing — a parliamentary gathering. The thing was followed by the marketplace, which later became a thriving town, and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Your destination today, Tórshavn delightfully blends the historic and picturesque with all the features of a modern city.
Set out from Runavík, taking the subsea tunnel from Eysturoy Island to Streymoy Island. You'll pass through the only underwater roundabout in the world.
Pause at a viewpoint above Tórshavn to take photos of this colorful capital city. Then, you'll visit two of the city's main attractions. A guided walk introduces you to Tinganes — the Old Town. Walk through its narrow streets lined with colorful old houses, some of which have traditional turf roofs.
Transfer up the hill to the National History Museum, which brings to life a millennium of Faroe Islands history, from the Viking Age to modern times. Learn more about the local nature, culture and geology of this remote archipelago. Make sure you view the famous medieval pew-ends taken from St Olav's Church in Kirkjubøur.
You'll head back to Runavík via the tunnel.
