Set along a winding tributary of the River Gambia, Makasutu Palm Forest is a rich ecological sanctuary combining dense forest, savanna, and mangrove habitats.
Your adventure begins aboard a traditional dug out canoe, drifting quietly through the mangroves. Enjoy peaceful views of the waterway while watching for birds, wildlife, and local oyster collectors working along the roots of the mangrove trees.
Returning to land, you’ll join an informative forest walk to explore the region’s flora and fauna. The walk includes a visit to the Marabout Man for a traditional consultation, followed by a palm wine demonstration and tasting.
At the forest base camp, relax beneath the towering baobab tree and enjoy a typical African buffet lunch accompanied by traditional dancers and drumming troupes. Before departing, you’ll have time to browse the crafts and pottery corner, where local artisans showcase traditional skills.
