Travel through the rolling landscapes that make up the areas surrounding Aberdeen to reach Glamis Castle — a royal residence since 1372. Glamis Castle has been handed down through generations of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne. The castle is famous in many ways — it was the childhood home of the Queen Mother, the birthplace of HRH Princess Margaret, and the inspiration for Shakespeare's Macbeth.
Today, you will explore the interior, which is very much still a family home. Venture into its many open public rooms, including the former bedroom of the Queen Mother. You'll also see Duncan's Hall —the oldest in the castle and traditionally Shakespeare's setting for the king's murder in Macbeth.
In an unusual twist, Glamis Castle is also reputed to be the most haunted stately home in Britain, and many are from the spine-chilling tales that have been born from its stones.
After your visit, indulge in a delicious afternoon tea or coffee with a snack.
