Kuantan is the capital of Pahang. The largest state on the Malay Peninsula offers visitors a chance to experience a surprisingly laid-back lifestyle.
Visit the Natural Batik Village to see how hand-painted batik is created. This craft involves the use of wax and dyes and is a glimpse into the region's rich traditional cultural activities
A short drive away are some stunning beaches with black rocks of volcanic origin. At Teluk Chempedak Beach, you will find local stalls/shops selling all kinds of handicrafts and local food. Shop, walk on the beach, or head to a nearby resort hotel for a beverage (at your own expense).
As you travel, watch for the elite residential suburbs of Kuantan and enjoy a photo stop at the Tanjung Api fishing pier. This is a slice of life in a local fishing village.
Photostop at Sultan Ahamd Shah 1 Mosque, the mosque was constructed between 1991 and 1993 and is built in a modernized Ottoman-Moorish-Islamic style, with four rocket-like minarets and a large half-round decorated dome flanked by four smaller domes.
From here, it's a leisurely drive back to the port.
