Begin your tour of one of Scotland's most beautiful areas with a drive that follows the south side of the Firth of Forth and then turns west to enter the Trossachs Trail that has often been described as "Scotland in Miniature." Following the Trail through the village of Thornhill, you'll pass Lake Menteith (Scotland's only lake, as all the others are lochs), through Aberfoyle, and to start the climb up the spectacular Dukes Pass. You'll have wonderful views of Loch Achray and Loch Venacher before arriving at Kilmahog to see the Highland cattle (locally called coos).
Continue to the charming town of Callander, where you'll have some free time to explore and perhaps purchase a souvenir of Scotland.
Back on the coach, complete the Trossachs Trail, heading into the royal burgh of Stirling. Take photos below Stirling Castle next to the King's Knot — the ancient hunting ground of Scottish Kings.
On a panoramic drive around the edge of Stirling — a city of great strategic military and political importance in medieval times — watch for the old Stirling Bridge where William Wallace led the Scots to victory in 1297. On the distant hill of Abbey Craig, you'll spot the Wallace Monument (1869), and see the Bannockburn Battlefield — the site of Robert the Bruce's decisive victory in 1314.
Return to South Queensferry and the ship.
