Your excursion begins with a short walk to board a custom-built, high-speed boat specially designed for wildlife viewing.
You'll cruise 25 miles to a remote inlet to witness eagles and seals fishing for salmon. Bears often emerge from the forest in May and June to forage on beach grass, berries and crabs. July – September, they are seeking the salmon that return to the rivers to spawn.
Although bear watching is your main objective, you'll spend about 30 minutes viewing other wildlife on the journey to and from the bear viewing area. Keep a keen eye out for wildlife on the move — whales, porpoises and sea lions follow schools of herring and salmon as they migrate to their spawning grounds.
Your excursion concludes in downtown Ketchikan, requiring a short walk back to the pier.
Notes:
Minimum age is 5 years. Maximum weight is 325 lbs. Local waters may be rough at times. Guests who are pregnant or have a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Tour requires walking 100 yards each way to and from the boat. Participants must be able to climb three steps to (dis)embark the coat. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the boat, which can be very steep at low tide. Rain jackets and binoculars are provided along with a variety of trail mixes, snack bars, and bottled water.
