What are the cancellation policies for shore excursions?

Pre-paid shore excursions can be canceled up to 3 days before cruise embarkation for a refund to the credit card used to purchase, and cancellations within 3 days must be handled on board with refunds applied to your onboard account.

Cancellation timing and how refunds are issued

More than 3 days before embarkation

  • You can cancel pre-paid tours up to 3 days prior to cruise embarkation.

  • Refunds are issued to the credit card used for the purchase.

Within 3 days of embarkation

  • Changes and cancellations must be completed on board the ship and can not be done online.

  • All onboard cancellations are subject to a cancellation fee.

  • Refunds are applied to your onboard account.

  • If onboard credit is not fully used during the cruise, the remaining balance is paid to the guest by the ship’s Purser at the end of the voyage.

Deadlines, fees, and excursion types to know about

Per-excursion cancellation deadlines

  • If you cancel on board after the cancellation deadline for a specific shore excursion, a 100% cancellation fee applies.

  • The ship’s shore excursions office can confirm the deadline for each tour.

Land portion excursions (Land & Sea Journey)

  • Optional shore excursions during the land portion of a Land & Sea Journey are non-refundable within 3 days of the Land & Sea Journey departure date.

Group shore excursions

  • Group shore excursions canceled within 3 days prior to the embarkation (sail) date are nonrefundable.

Custom tours

  • Custom tours may have different cancellation deadlines, and those deadlines are stated in the proposal.

If Holland America Line or the operator cancels

  • In the rare event a tour is canceled by Holland America Line or the tour operator, the full amount is refunded within four to six weeks after the voyage ends.
