A comfortable coach journey takes you from Kiel to Hamburg. The day is yours to spend at your leisure. If you wish, you may choose to join in activities reflecting Germany's commitment to Oktoberfest-style atmosphere and festivities (at your own expense).
Every year, Oktoberfest kicks off in Munich with the Lord Mayor tapping the first keg in the Festhalle Schottenhamel tent and shouting "O'zapft is!" — "It's tapped!"; however, Hamburg creates its own version.
This transfer may suit you if you would like to explore Hamburg and enjoy the Oktoberfest atmosphere on your own. It consists of a motorcoach ride from the ship to Hamburg. Your guide will provide a map and a special Oktoberfest card highlighting restaurants celebrating Oktoberfest. You will be dropped off at a central location, and the coach escort will advise you of the pick-up time for the return journey. It's a relatively easy walk to the two traditional Hofbräuhäuser (restaurants) and some microbreweries. You will have approximately four hours to explore independently.
Notes:
Guide service, taxi transfers, entrance fees and lunch are not included in the transfer price. It is your responsibility to be at the pick-up point at the given return time. An English-speaking escort will be aboard the transfer motorcoach to answer questions en route. Travel time to Hamburg is approximately 90 minutes each way. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. Use of public restrooms costs 50 cents - €1 cash. Shops are closed on Sundays and holidays; a few souvenir shops may be open. This is a daytime visit; live music at the celebrating restaurants is usually available only in the evenings. Oktoberfest™ is a registered trademark of the city of Munich.
