Begin with a scenic drive to the Hrísafell Goat Farm, situated on the northern part of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The owners will introduce you to their Icelandic goats and expound on their origin, dating back to the Vikings in the 9th century.
You'll learn about their endearing characteristics and, surprisingly, their role in the Icelandic sagas and Nordic mythology. These furry fellows are all up for a good head-scratch, and they're as curious about you as you are about them.
Afterward, taste various goat products such as goat pâté, goat meatballs, and marinated goat meat. Don't tell the goats!
During the drive back to Grundarfjörður, pause to admire the colorful Drápuhliðarfjall Mountain. Its subtle shades of red, yellow, blue, gray, and green originate from its wealth of rhyolite rich in silica.
Complete your tour back in Grundarfjörður with a stop at Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall. From here, you can also spot the famous Mt Kirkjufell — an iconic landmark that played a starring role in Game of Thrones .
