A German-speaking guide leads this tour (or a guide with a German interpreter). A limited number of German guides and interpreters are available in this port; book early to avoid disappointment. This is not a bilingual tour; please see Gibraltar's Highlights for the same tour guided in English.
Pass the American War Memorial and the headquarters of the remaining British Naval forces in Gibraltar as you head towards Europa Point. Snap some photos of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Bay of Gibraltar, the Spanish mainland and, on a clear day, the African continent.
Proceed to the Upper Rock area to visit St Michael's Cave and the famous and infamous Barbary apes. St Michael's Cave's technology-led installation creates an immersive experience inside the natural attraction. The Awakening highlights the history of the famous cave, explaining how the geological formation came to be through 360° light projection combined with immersive spatial audio.
You will drive past the Moorish Castle and the Tower of Homage, which still bears the scars of battle, to enter the Upper Town area's narrow streets. Guests wishing to stay in town and do some duty-free shopping are welcome to return to the ship on their own.
Notes:
Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation. You can use your mobility aid to reach the transportation; then, it will be stored in the cruise terminal until you return from your tour. Availability of foreign-language guides is limited in Gibraltar. Your guide will speak English; commentary in German is provided by audio recording.
