A 45-minute motorcoach drive brings you to Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula. Stunningly beautiful at any time of year, it is a source of inspiration for artists and writers.
The southernmost point of England, where the moorland is bordered by a jagged coastline of ancient rocks, boasts abundant evidence of prehistoric humans from the Bronze and Iron Ages. Your walking tour, or coastal trek, begins at Lizard Town. Small workshops here polish the colored local rock for use in dishes, jewelry, figurines and model lighthouses. Green lanes and paths lead south to some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in the country. Your refreshing two-hour walk meanders along the cliff top bedecked with wildflowers in the summer.
You will see the Lizard Lighthouse (1752) -- a former Lloyd's Signal Station and the site of one of Marconi's experimental wireless stations.
Turn inland to Church Cove and pause at a local pub for a typical lunch of fish and chips followed by a warm chocolate brownie. Of course, this includes a half-pint of English draft beer.
Browse in Lizard Town's small shops before the return drive to Falmouth.

Travel time to Lizard is one hour each way. Terrain includes uneven coastal clifftop paths with some steep sections. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Bring a waterproof jacket. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Minimum age is 10 years.
