Since Spain "discovered" the Americas, the city of Cádiz has been a gateway to the New World, and it is also a cultural bridge between Europe and Africa. Cádiz is also the oldest city in Europe; in fact, its Old Quarter sports a distinctly African influence. It is immensely intriguing — a clutch of narrow streets opening onto charming small squares.
This guided walking tour takes you to the Town Hall at Plaza San Juan de Dios for an outside visit, through the old Populo Quarter, and to the famous Cathedral of Cádiz. Step inside the latter to view an eclectic transition from 13th-century Baroque style to neo-Classical.
Finish up at the Flamenco Place la Cava for a stylish demonstration of typical Spanish dance, together with some tapas and drinks.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. The cathedral is closed to visitors on Sundays; an outside visit will be substituted.
