Join local experts as they seek the celestial wonder known as aurora borealis — the Northern Lights. Make the most of deep local knowledge in your hunt for this spellbinding natural phenomenon.
After dark, you'll head to the Northern Lights Camp at Pæskatun, situated near the top of Mt Pæska. With a fantastic view over the valley, this makes for an excellent photo location.
Listen to a Northern Lights presentation explaining the myths, history and science of the aurora and view a large screen where photos and movies of the Northern Lights are shown. Several warm cottages invite you in to sit down and warm up with hot beverages and cake. You may opt for the lavvo (Sámi tent) and a campfire.
At the workshop, you'll learn about Pæskatun's role as a slate quarry, with an audiovisual presentation highlighting the slate era.
Wander about and enjoy the scenery. On-site guides are available to assist with camera settings if you wish to take your own photos of the Northern Lights.
Locally-made slate souvenirs, photos, and postcards are sold here. If the Northern Lights appear, professional photographers can take your photo with the aurora as your sensational background, which will be sent to your email address (at your own expense).
