Begin your journey with a scenic drive to Goðafoss waterfall, one of Iceland's most impressive natural monuments. Located on the Skjálfandafljót River and designated a Natural Monument, Goðafoss is one of the largest waterfalls in Iceland.
This awe-inspiring cascade is divided into two main waterfalls and several smaller ones, creating a powerful, multi-layered landscape. According to Icelandic legend, Goðafoss earned its name in the year 1000 when the Norse pagan idols were thrown into the falls — a symbolic gesture of Iceland's conversion to Christianity. Standing by the waterfall, you'll sense both the historical significance and the raw power of nature in this captivating location.
Continue to the Forest Lagoon, a spa nestled amid birch and pine trees, with stunning views over the Eyjafjörðurfjord and the serene Vaðlaskógur Forest. Relax in the two geothermal pools — a large pool at 37°C (98.6°F) with a swim-up bar, and a smaller pool at 40°C (104°F). For a revitalizing experience, try the Finnish dry sauna, offering panoramic views of the fjord and surrounding mountains. If you wish, alternate between the sauna and the adjacent cold pool, set at 11°C (51.8°F), to fully experience the rejuvenating benefits.
Complete your tour with a stop at the Hlíðarfjall Viewpoint for a stunning panorama of Akureyri and its surrounding landscapes.
Notes:
Minimum age is 12 years. Bring your swimsuit. Towels are provided. The changing rooms are gender-divided but are European-style (not private). Lockers (locked with digital wristbands), showers, hair conditioner and soap are included. US dollars (bills only; no coins), euros, Icelandic kroner, and major credit cards are accepted. Hygiene regulations require that you shower with soap and without a swimsuit before entering the lagoon. Shoes are not to be worn inside the locker room area; they are to be stored on shoe shelves or in plastic bags inside lockers. The water is hot; ensure you are hydrated. The minerals in the water make hair dry and coarse, but it returns to normal after a few showers. Do not wear jewelry in the water, as the minerals can stain metal. Although the lockers are secure, do not bring valuables to the lagoon. Floors may be slippery; take care when walking in the locker area and out to the lagoon. Guests with a heart condition or other health concern should seek their physician's advice before booking.
