A two-hour drive by comfortable motorcoach will bring you to Heraklion. This town is famous for the once-stunning Knossos Palace — one of the most important landmarks of the now-lost Minoan civilization.
According to mythology and history combined, Knossos was the seat of the famous King Minos. The palace here is connected to some rather thrilling stories, such as the legend, true or otherwise, of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth. The story of Daedalus and Icarus — the boy who flew too close to the sun — also originated here.
Your knowledgeable guide will tell you about the splendid history of Knossos as you tour the partially restored ruins of this once-glorious palace.
Enjoy a traditional Greek lunch served at a local restaurant before heading back to the port.
Notes:
Travel time to Knossos is two hours each way. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses, wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water.
