Perge is the best example of a complete Roman city on the Pamphylian Plain, founded in the 13th century BC, and the Antalya Necropolis Museum is your key to understanding the lifestyle of Turkey's early civilizations.
Travel to Perge, which flourished under the Seleucid Kings, when it was fortified for the first time. In the Hellenistic period, Perge's prosperity grew through its coin-minting industry. Artemis was the city's most important deity, and her image was commonly used in art and on coins. Within the city, you will see the Roman Gate located on the outer wall, the Baths complex situated west of the courtyard before the Hellenistic Gate, and a distinctive horseshoe-shaped courtyard.
You will also view the ancient marketplace, once surrounded by shops that formed the commercial heart of Perge.
Visit the Antalya Necropolis Museum — a fantastic archaeological venue that showcases burial traditions, sarcophagi, grave goods, and funerary architecture spanning Antalya's history. The museum provides insight into ancient beliefs about life, death, and the afterlife through its collection of tomb structures, artifacts uncovered from necropolis excavations, inscriptions, and well-preserved stonework. Detailed displays explain burial customs practiced in the region over centuries, offering an in-depth understanding of Antalya's cultural evolution.
