DAY 1: (L, D)
Upon disembarkation in Port Elizabeth, you will meet your local guide and transfer to Shamwari Game Reserve. Located along the Bushman’s River between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, Shamwari is the southernmost private Big Five reserve in Africa and is completely malaria-free. The 18,000-hectare reserve is rich in settler history and is recognized internationally for its conservation work, including wildlife research and anti-poaching initiatives.
On arrival at Eagles Crag Lodge, you will receive a welcome drink before completing check-in. You will then be shown to your room with time to freshen up. In the afternoon, you will head out on a late-day game drive with an experienced ranger who will focus on wildlife tracking and provide time for sundowners in the bush. After your afternoon game drive, you’ll come back to the lodge to freshen before you head to dinner.
Shamwari assigns a dedicated game ranger to each group of six guests, ensuring a personalized safari experience. Your ranger and the lodge manager will work with you to plan your daily schedule. Game drives take place in specially adapted open vehicles designed for comfort and optimal viewing. Your ranger will share expert knowledge of the region’s wildlife, vegetation, and ecosystems throughout your time in the reserve.

You will receive an early morning wake-up call at 5am and be served tea, coffee, and biscuits before departing on your morning game drive, offering the opportunity to experience the wildlife and landscapes of Shamwari Game Reserve. After the drive, return to camp for breakfast and time at leisure. Guests interested in a guided bush walk may arrange this directly with their ranger. The remainder of the morning can be spent relaxing in your room or enjoying the heated plunge pool with views of the surrounding wildlife.
Afternoon tea will be served before you depart on your late afternoon game drive. Upon returning to the lodge, dinner will be served.

Breathing devices:
There are stringent regulations regarding the transportation of breathing/respiratory devices for any purpose during tours or overland trips. Guests intending to bring such a device must notify the home office or shore excursion staff at least 30 days before the start of the tour. They are required to fill out the necessary FAA documentation, furnish a physician's authorized letter detailing the device's particular use, and provide information about the device. It is imperative to understand that each airline will conduct an inspection of the device before boarding to ensure compliance, which may result in delays at the airport.
