After a 15-minute walk from the pier to the Lüderitz Waterfront jetty, board a boat and head out on a cruise to Halifax Island. Cruise toward Agate Beach, offering beautiful views of sand dunes and the surrounding landscape. You may be lucky enough to see Heaviside dolphins escorting the boat along the way. Cape fur seals, various seabirds and, in season, southern right and humpback whales are also often seen.
At Halifax Island, the skipper stops so you can see African penguins in their natural habitat. Enjoy some time taking photos and watching the penguins dive into the water and waddle among the rocks.
On the cruise back to the pier, enjoy views of the hills of Lüderitz that surround the bay, Shark Island with its lighthouse, and fishing boats bringing in their daily catch.
Return to the jetty and walk back to the ship.
Notes:
Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Bring a warm waterproof and windproof jacket — it can be cooler on the water. Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled by the operator in the event of extreme weather or unsuitable conditions. The small catamaran-style vessel is covered and is equipped with a marine toilet. Terrain includes a marine ramp from the pier to the boat, which can be very steep at low tide. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the boat.
