Enjoy a guided walk on a portion of the spectacular Cliff Walk, followed by a visit to one of Newport's most elegant mansions.
With New England's rocky shore and crashing surf on one side and Newport's most extravagant mansions on the other, the Cliff Walk remains one of the top attractions in Newport.
You will also step inside the grandest of Newport's "summer cottages" — The Breakers — commissioned by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, Chairman and President of the New York Central Railroad. Inspired by the 16th-century palaces of Genoa and Turin, the 70-room Italian Renaissance-style villa (1895) was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt, who directed an international team of craftsmen and artisans. The mansion is situated on a 13-acre estate overlooking a spectacular view of the rugged Atlantic coastline.
Notes:
The Breakers will not be available on April 23, 2026, for the visit of the Zuiderdam due to closure for filming of HBO series The Gilded Age. Rosecliff will be substituted for The Breakers on this date only. Mansion tours at Rosecliff are self-guided, audio tours using the Newport Mansions App. Guests must bring their own smart device with earbuds and download the Newport Mansions App. Guests are encouraged to download the App prior to arrival at the mansions. The self-guided audio tour via App is available in English, French, Spanish, German & Chinese. Additional house information, floor plans, historic photos and other information is available on the App. Printed house narratives are available at the front door of the mansion. Due to their popularity, there may be a short wait to enter the mansion. Interior photography is permitted; however, use of selfie sticks and tripods is not allowed. Tour may operate in reverse sequence.
