Of the four hermitages (temple monasteries) dedicated to the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy in Korea, Hyangiram is perhaps the best-known. To reach this stunning temple in Yeosu, visitors must hike up a steep mountain trail with many steps. It's well worth the effort. The trail is enveloped by trees, and the setting is profoundly serene. As you approach Hyangiram Temple, navigate through seven passageways created from slabs of hewn stone. If you successfully pass through them, you'll be granted a wish. The symbol of Hyangiram is the turtle, and you'll see likenesses throughout the complex.
In stark contrast, check out the pace and produce of Yeosu Seo Market, which sells an astounding assortment of seafood, vegetables, and other products. Vendors offer a taste of their products, and the market also sells clothing, porcelain, stamps, and shoes. It is a great example of traditional market life and a chance to pick up souvenirs along the way.
Notes:
