A trio of Sakata's most prized museums awaits you on this half-day adventure, beginning with a scenic motorcoach ride to the Honma Museum. Built in 1813 as the villa of the Honma family, the museum is one of the first private museums in Japan. Examine the fine art and stroll in the garden with a central pond and views of Mt Chokai.
Your next stop is the Ken Domon Museum of Photography, the world's first private photography museum. Ken Domon, a renowned news photographer, donated all 70,000 of his photos to the city. The modern building housing the collection is surrounded by sculptures and manicured gardens, set against a lush natural forest.
Lastly, you'll visit the Sankyo rice warehouses. Constructed in 1893, this former rice facility has been renovated to include a mini-museum showcasing various aspects of this vital grain.
Notes:
You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). There is no elevator at the Honma Museum. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces and many steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, scooters, etc) cannot be accommodated on the transportation. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
