Tucked away in the heart of Joo Chiat, where colorful shophouses and rich heritage define the streetscape, lies a hidden gem—Peranakan Mansion. Housed in a beautifully restored 1928 Peranakan Chinese shophouse, this living museum offers a rare glimpse into the opulent world of the Peranakans, one of Singapore’s most vibrant and storied cultures. From the moment you step inside, you're not just visiting a museum—you’re walking into a time capsule. Wander through lavishly decorated reception halls, an ornate bridal chamber, and an intimate kebaya room, each brimming with original furniture, intricate beadwork, and precious heirlooms preserved just as they were a century ago.
Unlike traditional museums, Peranakan Mansion invites you to immerse yourself fully—touch the textures, open the cabinets, and run your hands along the intricate woodwork. Feel the history come alive around you. After your journey through the past, the experience continues: sample a variety of delicious Nonya snacks that reflect the unique culinary heritage of the Peranakan people.
