Nature enthusiasts will relish the opportunity to explore the scenic wonder of Amami Oshima -- an island often referred to as the Oriental Galapagos. Verdant foliage and a wide variety of indigenous animals and colorful birds are the hidden treasures on this island dominated by forest. Visitors are often struck by the density and lushness of the vegetation, which flourishes in the subtropical climate.
A scenic motorcoach drive introduces you to some of the island's great beauty. Your destination is the Amami Nature Observation Forest in Tatsugo. You'll hike with your guide through this park that features improved, marked trails, a tranquil pond and two different observation towers. (S)he will orient you to the park and offer informative commentary on the abundant flora and fauna you see along the way. Spend some relaxing time in the woods listening to birdsong; then head up to one of the observation decks to enjoy a splendid view of Tatsugo Bay.
After this exhilarating outdoor experience, re-board your coach and head back to the pier.
