Explore Niigata city and some of its favorite highlights.
You will visit the North Culture Museum in Yokogoshi village, south of Niigata. It is housed in the former villa of affluent landowner Ito Bunkichi and is famed for its magnificent style and beautiful Japanese garden. Construction started in 1882 and took eight years to complete. Built in traditional Japanese style, the home has 65 rooms. Perhaps most interesting is the large reception hall, used only for family ceremonies, with its beautiful view of the grounds.
The next stop is at Niigata Furusato Village -- a large facility in Niigata Prefecture surrounded by rich nature and greenery. The shops here sell Niigata specialties, and the restaurants serve local cuisine. Explore Niigata Furusato Village before returning to the ship.
Notes
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Terrain is uneven, with gravel paths and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. You must remove your shoes at the North Culture Museum.
