Bali Barat National Park is home to around 150 species of tropical birds, both migratory and endemic. A must for bird-lovers, this outing represents a chance to spot the Bali myna or the Bali starling—it is believed that only around fifteen Bali starlings remain in the wild today. Board a local wooden boat and cruise towards the limestone hills of Teluk Brumbun to search for the Bali myna (Leicopsar rothschildi) and other species such as black-winged starling, lemon-bellied white eye, weaver, shrikers, fantails, tailorbirds, prinias, tits, drongos, bulbuls, kingfishers, feafbirds, minivets, cuckoo, woodpeckers, barbets, bee eaters, swifts, nightjars, coucal, malkohas, pigeons, dovers, terns, tick knee, green junglefowl, hawks, falcons and eagles. A walk through scrubby grasslands and up a rocky cliff takes you to the best place for spotting the most bird life. Following this, you’ll spend an hour or so snorkeling in the crystal clear waters off Menjangan Island, rich in tropical fish and sporting a stunning necklace of coral reefs.
Please note: Wear comfortable, light clothing including long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Wear earth-tone clothing to avoid startling the birds. Pockets are useful for keeping a small notebook and other items you may wish to bring. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat.
