Enjoy a panoramic drive through scenic countryside to the city of Goshogawara for a fascinating look at the region's famed art and culture.
You will visit Shamisen Kaikan for a live performance of shamisen music. A shamisen is a three-stringed traditional Japanese guitar-like instrument, and its sound is one of a delicate, plucking-like melody.
Next, walk to the childhood home of Japanese writer Dazai Osamu. The house, made of Aomori cypress, was built by his father in 1907 in a semi-Western style. A favorite cloak worn by Dazai, his writing tools, handwritten manuscripts and letters are on display in the exhibition room.
At the Tachineputa no Yakata pavilion, you will see a trio of some of the most unusual parade floats. Japan is famous for its matsuri (festivals) celebrated in almost every region in the country. Each city takes pride in its large and elaborately-decorated dashi or floats.
After your tour, you'll climb back aboard your coach and return along the same scenic route to your ship.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). Live performances at the Shamisen Kaikan may be canceled with little prior notice. Tour sequence may vary.
