Travel by motorcoach to La Serena -- a city of beaches, hotels and restaurants.
Leave the coach for a short stroll that brings you to the La Recova handicraft market. This is your chance to find a few fun and interesting souvenirs.
You’ll reboard the coach for a ride to the Elqui Valley, whose geography is quite unique in all the world. This narrow valley is a fertile strip of land on a desert plateau irrigated by the Elqui River. Typical Andean villages such as Algarrobito, El Molle and El Tambo line your route.
You’ll stop in picturesque Vicuña village, where literary Nobel Prize winner Gabriela Mistral was born. After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll have some time to visit the main plaza to spot Bauer Tower (the old City Hall) and Vicuña’s pretty church.
Finally, you’ll visit a Pisco distillery and factory to learn about the making of Pisco wine (the National Beverage) and to taste the product.
Return to Coquimbo pier in the late afternoon.
Notes:
This tour is available only on select sailings and is dependent upon time in port. Bauer Tower (the old City Hall) and Vicuña's church is seen from the outside only, no inside visit.
