A scenic drive along the shores of Galway Bay brings you to the picturesque town of Kinvara. Here, you will photograph Dunguaire Castle -- a small 17th-century castle built by the Hynes clan in 1520 and set on a rocky promontory.
From Kinvara, you will turn inland to visit the welcoming owners of Rathbaun Farm. Rathbaun boasts a picturesque 150-year-old farmhouse. This is the perfect spot for enjoying traditional homemade scones and a cup of tea while your hosts take you on a narrative journey through Irish farming history. The Connolly family, still farming to this day, will speak to the many phases this land has seen over the centuries, from famine to prosperity to the Ireland of today. Afterward, you're invited to hand-feed the newborn lambs (in season only) and watch the farmer maneuver his flock with the help of his trusty sheepdog.
Rejoin your motorcoach and guide for the return to Galway. Galway is the capital city of County Galway and is located on the northeastern corner of Galway Bay. It is known as the City of Tribes because fourteen so-called tribes led the city to prominence early in its history. They were the merchant families of Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, Darcy, Deane, Font, French, Joyce, Kirwin, Lynch, Martyn, Morris and Skerrett. Are you related to them?
Note the Corrib River, which runs through the city and stop to photograph Galway Cathedral before returning to the pier.
