Transfer to the city center for a stroll along the Aarhus Canal. The canal has been of great significance to the city's history, and today it is a natural gathering point, with numerous cafés stretched along its banks like so many pearls.
Follow your guide through the streets and squares of Aarhus and listen to stories of the city's history, markets, houses, and those who have lived in them throughout the ages. You will reach ARoS (the Aarhus Modern Art Museum) and make your way to the very top of this tall building. Step out and take in the cityscape in vivid technicolor through the Your Rainbow Panorama walkway designed by Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson.
From here, it's a short walk to Den Gamle By — the Old Town. With more than 80 houses dating from 1600 to 1970, this living museum is an absolute must-see. It also features more than 34 workshops and shops, a pharmacy, a school, a post office, a telephone exchange, and a jazz bar. The Old Town also has its own theatre — the Elsinore Theatre — which hosts opera performances, chamber concerts and festivals.
Walk along the stream running through Aarhus. On sunny days, it's one of the most vibrant and bustling places in the city.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Tour sequence may vary. The walk covers approximately 2½ miles (3.9 km). Guests who prefer to walk back to the ship can take the coach from Aarhus Canal after the first three hours of the tour and return to the ship early. The remainder of the group will walk back to the ship at the conclusion of the tour.
