This pleasant walking tour will lead you through Chania and give you a chance to discover this charming city that is quite rich in history.
After a coach transfer from the port to the center of town, set out on foot and follow your local guide along charming medieval streets. You will see a wide range of monuments from different periods — some dating back hundreds of years. Churches, mosques, and synagogues can be found in close proximity; elegant Venetian houses stand near buildings, fountains and baths from the Turkish period.
View the famous Market Hall from the outside while learning about its history from your guide. His/her comments will include interesting anecdotes about the locals and historical facts about the buildings and landmarks that cross your path.
Your 1½-hour walk will finish at the colorful and charming harbor area. It is small but brims with bustling tavernas, cafés and tradesmen's shops. Enjoy some free time to purchase a coffee (at your own expense) or to shop for a souvenir before returning to the ship.
Notes:
The Market Hall may be closed due to renovation works; a visit to the old city market will be substituted. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Tour requires walking and standing. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines and steps.
