Here's a great opportunity to experience the real Gambia -- a totally different way of life. This off-the-beaten-track adventure follows the coastline to Sanyang -- a coastal village known for its beautiful beaches, rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscape. Meet some of the wonderful inhabitants of the Smiling Coast, including a palm wine tapper -- possibly the highlight of your day! A visit to one of the village schools, when possible, offers a chance to meet some of Africa's engaging young people.
A barbecue lunch is provided at a local beach, where you can swim and sunbathe.
Next, you will visit the Tanji Nature Trail, showing various aspects of Gambian culture. As you travel through the bush, you'll make unscheduled stops along the way, allowing you to observe chattering monkeys, hopefully baboons in their treetop playgrounds, and many exotic and colorful birds.
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, a cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Time at the beach is approximately 1.5 hours. Vehicles used are open-air trucks -- participants must board using a ladder. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Bring insect repellent. Bring bottled water. Wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. Terrain includes mainly flat and sandy surfaces with some uneven ground. Visitors are not allowed to photograph military sites or personnel; doing so can lead to serious problems with the local authorities; please ask your tour guide's advice before using your camera.
