Puerto Plata's historical importance derives from its role in the first decade following the European discovery of the Americas.
Departing from the pier, you will pass some of the most important landmarks of Puerto Plata. Take note of the vividly colorful colonial structures throughout the Old Town, including Umbrella Street with its colorful bougainvillea and photogenic shopfronts of the Pink Alley.
You will see the San Felipe Cathedral and Plaza Independencia (the former central park), and visit a local souvenir shop. The latter offers charming mementos to take home.
