Venture outside the city to discover lush landscapes, rolling green hills, and the peaceful nature reserve of Parc Forestier, located in the hinterland overlooking Nouméa.
Spot feathered friends, and native flora and fauna as you take a peaceful guided tour through this 85-acre nature reserve. At an elevation of 548 feet, you'll enjoy the changing backdrop of ocean views in the distance as you walk along the well-marked trails, viewing the ponds, lakes, native shrubs, and abundant bird life along the way.
You'll spot a huge variety of wild and domestic birds, such as the roussette (fruit bat), notou, parakeets, and the rare cagou. The latter is a flightless bird and is the symbol of New Caledonia; its call is often mistaken for a barking dog.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring insect repellent and bottled water. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
