Embark on a captivating two-hour river journey that blends scenic beauty with the charm of a bygone era.
Begin your adventure with a coach ride to the vibrant town of Kawakawa, home to New Zealand's oldest operating passenger railway and also to New Zealand's most famous public restroom.
Board the train at the lovingly restored vintage station and travel alongside State Highway 1, winding through picturesque farmland toward the longest curved wooden bridge in the Southern Hemisphere.
From there, your journey continues along tranquil waterways and untouched wetlands en route to the coastal town of Opua. Glide past lush forests and thriving river ecosystems, breathing in the fresh harbor air. Keep an eye out for endangered native birds as you take in the region's almost otherworldly landscapes. Along the way, enjoy insightful commentary from passionate local guides who bring to life the rich heritage, cultural stories, and pioneering spirit of the Bay of Islands and its hinterland communities.
Enhancing this immersive experience is a curated selection of canapés, cheeses, dips, and specialty treats to showcase the fun flavors of the Bay of Islands. Each guest receives an individually pre-packed tasting box, complemented by your choice of local wine, juice, or soda.
Notes:
Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, and some steps. Tour content is identical to Scenic Vintage Railway but includes a snack box and seating in a different carriage.
