Get acquainted with Jodogahama and its Visitor Center by boarding a boat for a cruise to this jagged island.
The picturesque coastline of Sanriku Fukko National Park surrounds you, and you'll pass several dramatic rock formations, including towering Candle Rock. Large black-tailed gulls dip and dive into the salty seawater.
Jodogahama Beach, designated a National Scenic Reserve, is a beautiful white-pebble beach that creates a striking landscape against the deep blue ocean. The contrast is punctuated by rocky islands and the surrounding lush green pine trees.
Don't miss a chance to browse at the Miyako Gyosai Market — your gateway to shopping like a local.
Notes:
Tour requires walking five minutes from the Visitor Center to the boat. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse. The market is closed Wednesdays; a visit to the Michi no Eki Miyako will be substituted. Tour does not operate on Tuesdays. Boat cruise operates marine and weather conditions permitting.
