Take a scenic transfer from the ship by bus, heading out through Skagway. Your guide will acquaint you with both its gold rush history and present-day community.
Journey to the northernmost point of Lynn Canal, past the head of the famous Chilkoot Trail.
A family-friendly dog musher's camp awaits you. Discover an authentically northern pastime while learning all about sled dogs and their mushers.
Take a 4x4 Unimog ride to the kennels for a thrill ride with the dogs in action as you participate in an approximately one-mile summertime ride aboard a custom-built wheeled sled (no snow). Your husky team rockets along a scenic wooded trail, past spruce and hemlock trees and glacier-fed waterfalls with views of the Taiya Inlet tidal flats.
Return to the dog camp to spend time interacting with the dogs and puppies. Learn about the equipment and the tremendous husky strength that goes into the life of dog sledding in the wild and rugged North.
Pan for gold and try to find "pay dirt" from your very own gold pan. Enjoy roasting s'mores over an open fire, then set off on a short hike (optional) to a beautiful waterfall.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. The dog sledding is not on snow; it is a wheeled sled. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, gravel, grass, and steps. Participants must be able to climb several 12-inch steps without assistance. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Ride will be bumpy; guests with a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate.
