Explore Kodiak's spectacular beauty and wartime history with extended time for a scenic hike through a portion of 183-acre Fort Abercrombie State Park.
Depart the pier for the drive to park headquarters. You'll have three hours of free time to hike along well-maintained natural and gravel trails offering breathtaking views. A variety of seabirds inhabit the park's coastline, and whale sightings are frequently reported in this area throughout the season.
During your hike, you might see World War II bunkers — remnants of Kodiak's wartime past. At the appointed time, meet your bus back at park headquarters for the return drive to the pier.
Notes:
Depending on how far you explore, portions of the trail lead you through forested areas with 10% to 20% inclines and a staircase of 68 steps. This tour provides transportation to Fort Abercrombie State Park for free time to explore the trails on your own. Not advisable for guests with heart, respiratory or back issues. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes suitable for hiking. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Tour does not operate on weekends.
