In Molde, it's hard to miss the magnificent surrounding panorama of no less than 222 snow-capped peaks. The spectacular outlook from the Varden Viewpoint takes in Romsdalsfjord and its many small islands.
Your destination today is the great Atlantic Ocean Road -- a stunning piece of engineering that offers unforgettable sights to stir even the most jaded traveler. It zigzags across bridges and causeways, from skerries to islands to mere scraps of land at the edge of nowhere. This is where the ocean begins, and nowhere on earth is its might more evident than right here on the Ocean Road.
The Hustadvika area features an infamous stretch of sea dotted with underwater skerries and islets -- a shipwreck waiting to happen. You'll stop in Bud, a charming fishing village facing the open ocean. Take some photos and look across to the Bjørnsund Islands. These were once a busy, thriving fishing community; today, the buildings there are used as summerhouses.
Follow Frænfjord via Elnes and cross back over the hills into Molde.
