Your tour begins in Leknes, the administrative center of Vestvågøy Island, where agriculture plays just as vital a role as fishing. As you depart, watch for tiny Leknes Airport and the majestic Himmeltindan Mountains. These are the highest peaks of Vestvågøy, rising nearly 3,000 feet.
Continue to Borg, the site of a remarkable archaeological discovery made by a local farmer in the early 1980s — the remains of an ancient Viking farm. Today, the reconstructed longhouse brings Viking history vividly to life, showcasing that the Lofoten Islands were a significant center of power during the Viking Age. The impressive main building stretches 90 yards in length and offers visitors a fascinating insight into how people lived more than a thousand years ago. You may notice a smoky atmosphere inside the building, as open fires are part of the authentic experience.
Return to Leknes along the same scenic route to rejoin your ship.
