Cephalonia's wonderful wines were first written up by Homer in The Odyssey. Since then, they have been the subject of numerous reviews and articles, and are a favorite of Food & Wine.
Cephalonia is the most mountainous of the Ionian Islands. Its mountainous morphology, the sunshine, the elevation and a variety of meso-climates play vital roles in shaping the terroir and the wine production landscape of the island.
The center of viticulture is the wider inland area of Omala, where the Robola zone vineyards drape like a green mantle over the slopes of Mount Aenos. Indigenous varietals, such as Vostilidi, Muscat, Mavrodaphne, Zakinthino grow here, along with Robola. The latter is a dynamic white varietal -- among the finest and most prominent of Greece -- producing the wine PDO Robola. High inclination and gravelly, limey soils result in freshness, finesse and exquisite balance.
On this intimate tour, visit select century-old vineyards -- a journey through time to discover how wine was produced in an old cottage. This contrasts sharply with the winery's modern production facility, where you will taste six varietals accompanied by local cheese, bread, olives, olive oil and tomatoes.
