For those interested in both history and aquatic adventure, this 1.5-hour excursion takes you on a guided snorkeling expedition in the crystal-clear waters of Green Beach. You'll discover relics from the Battle of Saipan -- one of the costliest battles of World War II.
US forces invaded Saipan's beaches to take control of its airbase. The beaches were color-coded, and Green Beach is the starting point for your kayak and snorkel experience. Kayak out into the smooth waters, then swim with your guide among schools of tropical fish. You'll find a Sherman tank just offshore, complete with its gun turret. The tank is submerged in approximately 5 feet of water on a normal tide and on a super tide its submerged 10 feet under the water.
Back on shore, refresh with some fruit and take a moment to ponder the area's military history and view some of its most significant sights.
Notes:
Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
