Explore the sights and sounds of the south side of Saipan. Seventy-three years ago, troops landed on Red Beach, Green Beach, Blue Beach and Yellow Beach. Today, you can only imagine the chaos and confusion as the Sherman tanks crossed the island.
Your first stop will be at the old Japanese Jail, where it is now believed that aviator Amelia Earhart was held captive. The hills to your left are Captain Oba hid out for 15 months after the island was secured.
Turn down Quartermaster Road to view the point of the Red Beach invasion and, later, the Green Beach invasion.
Visit the pillbox at Agigan Point and, at Garapan, the American Memorial Park en route back to the ship.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
